Vehicles kill 13 people every minute in America
2.9 million people a year are injured in vehicle accidents
Over 42,500 people per year are killed by vehicles
These are accurate statistics from the United States Department of Transportation. As you can see, vehicles are dangerous and something should be done. I believe it is necessary to ban vehicles except for government use only.
Does this sound ridiculous to you? Of course it does. Try this: replace the word “vehicle” with the word “gun?” Now why doesn’t that sound ridiculous? It should, but for some reason people are convinced that somehow guns kill people and as a result, only government officials should be trusted with them.
Will crime rates drop if we ban guns? The fact is they probably would. Gun crimes would not cease to exist, but they would probably drop about 5 to 10% because, yes, it would be a little harder for criminals to obtain guns. There would be less gun accidents in homes. These statements are probably true. Are these good enough reasons to allow our government to take guns away from law abiding individuals? Is this enough reason for the government to put this restriction on how far you are allowed to go to protect the safety of your family? I say no.
Here are some facts that gun control advocates do not want you to know:
Compared to 35,000 gun deaths every year, 2.5 million good Americans use guns to protect themselves and their families.
Homicide rates are lower in states with loose gun control and higher in states and D.C. with draconian gun controls and bans.
Due to continuing education and gun safety programs sponsored by organizations such as the NRA, accidental gun deaths are dropping exponentially year by year.
MYTH: Gun control will keep guns off the street. REALLY? You mean like drugs? You mean like prostitution? The idea that people who use guns for crime will stop obtaining them because they are illegal is crazy. In fact it’s illogical.
INTERESTING FACT: The same type of thinking that is totally against a certain “pre-emptive strike” (I am against it too actually, but that’s for another time) are the same people who want to take our guns away from us. Is this not a pre-emptive strike? Shouldn’t we continue to prosecute the people who commit the crimes and leave the ones alone who are doing what they have to to protect themselves from the criminals?
MYTH: Citizens are too incompetent to use guns for protection and only trained government professionals (Cops) should be entrusted them. ACTUALLY, good citizens use guns about 7-10 times as frequently as the police to repel crime and apprehend criminals and do so with a better safety record. About 11% of police shootings kill an innocent person - about 2% of shootings by citizens kill an innocent person. The odds of a defensive gun user killing an innocent person are loss than 1 in 26,000. Citizens intervening in crime are less likely to be wounded than the police.
Twenty-two states have reformed gun laws to allow good citizens with the proper permits to carry them outside of there home. Every single category in crime statistics has dropped significantly in all of these states. Overall armed robbery has dropped 50% and rape has dropped 30% in these states. One-Third of Americans live in these states.
Florida, the largest state with newly reformed laws allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons, issued 188,106 permits. In the six years since these laws have been reformed, no person with a concealed weapons permit has killed any innocent person. Seventeen of these 188,106 permits have been revoked in these six years due to misuse and not one of these misuses resulted in injury.
Guns are vilified in America because it’s the easy way out. It’s easy to blame guns for the problems with crime in America. What’s difficult is looking into our education system. What’s difficult is looking into our parenting and the kind of ideals and morals we are raising are kids with. Why blame our own short-comings when we can just blame guns and the people who own them for everything?
In case you are one of those who will argue my vehicle illustration by saying, “Well, the government requires licensing and heavily regulates the use of vehicles.” Are you sure? The fact is that the law states that on private property a vehicle is treated as a private possession and that you may do whatever you wish with it. I can drive 120 on my back five if I want to. My 7 year old nephew could drive around on my lawn and he would not be in violation of any law. Also any person, even one who has committed vehicular manslaughter in his/her life, is allowed to own a vehicle with a driver’s license. The guy who trained me to get my CDL did 3 years for vehicular manslaughter!! There is no waiting period. There is no proof of need permit. All you need is a driver’s license to drive a vehicle and you don’t even need that to buy one!
I’m not implying in any way that vehicles should be banned or even more heavily regulated. I’m saying that taking the guns away from law abiding good citizens of our United States of America will do more harm than good. YOU WOULD BE CREATING A WHOLE NEW PROBLEM IN AN EFFORT TO SOLVE A DIFFERENT ONE. Just picture a system where you can be prosecuted because you shot a person who had a gun pointed at somebody you loved. Forget the statistics that are supportive or against gun control. Forget the statistics and just imagine being totally helpless while somebody walks into your house and murders your family. What good are the guns being in the hands of the police when they have to drive miles to protect you with them?
I wrote this because as our society evolves into a socialist European-like system our rights are being picked off (no pun intended) one by one and our right to bear arms is on the list. Don’t be ignorant and let politicians manipulate you with emotional arguments that are substantiated by very little facts. Peace.
All of the statistics that are stated in this article are factual and if you would like a list of the sources that I used to obtain them you can e-mail me and I will be happy to provide them.
