What does cton mean?

cton=game style where there is no diplomacy allowed. Players may not: 1-ally 2-trade 3-discuss anything which may divulge information about the happenings of the game. IE-you cannot say "Inca that was not cool, why you attack me?" because then everyone knows Inca is close to you and probably has less units at home. You can pass general comments like "ouch" "that sucked" "bully " but you cant name players or civs. This game style was made popular by a civ3players champion called "cton". The first woman MP champion of civ. Popular game style before this were FFA's (free for alls) where players may ally, trade, gang bang, do what ever they pleased, very much like open games today. However she found and accurately so that people were double/triple teaming her all the time because of her rank. She therefore started "cton" style games to counter this and allow her skills to shine.

Are there "optional" settings for ctons? For example, every cton I've played in up to today has been
Always war, no tech trading (obviously) No barbs Always city razing 2 city elim Variable turn limit/timer Goody huts on
But today the host set it to No city razing and No goody huts. The host didn't mention these changes in the usual settings, so it was quite a surprise when I found a recently razed civ was very quickly occupied by another player. It was still quite early so I assumed they made a settler quickly... but it wasn't until nearly the end of the game when the host said "oh yeah, no city razing is on."
So is the above list part of the "definition" for CTON? If not, is it at least the "standard", and any changes should be mentioned before the game launches?
Thanks.

Always check the settings before you check in. Sometimes the host may try to pull a fast one and set the rules differently. What this host did was ok, as it up to you to check the settings. I've been burnt this way too so now i always check the settings.

You can check the settings in the game with the F8 key also highly recommend you check settings in the lobby before you X in

Seems to be more and more terms that are evolving which I'm not even familiar with. I'd like to see some updates in here for the noobies that everyone loves so much. Correction ... I'd like to see some new terms defined in here for myself. ;D

I have played in a few games termed as "semi-cton" and they inculed interplayer cat, alliances, very much more than just pick civ's. The common thread seems to be "always war" and "no tech trading" that sort of thing. Other than that it's anything goes.
Also I seen and played in games listed as "FF Cton" or "FF Teamer" and read in the lobby people asking, "is that a free for all cton? what the?" It is a Final Frontier mod game played cton or teamer style.

a semi-cton differs from a cton only with the selection of civs. There are never any negotiations, deals pacts or conversations within any cton formatted game.

here's some terms since i'm bored and can't play civ cause I uninstalled again Noob(nub, nubsauce, nooby) New player or player lacking in skill. Leet(elite) Veteran/highly skilled player. Uber(very, super) Used by itself means a particularly good player better than even your average Leet but can also be used to enhance other terms such as ubernoob which would mean an absolutely useless player. Pwn(pwned, pwnage, own) To own, to win, to kill eg: "I'm gonna pwn you so bad." FFA(free for all) Games where alliances and diplomacy is allowed, tech trading generally isn't allowed even in these games as it's too easy to exploit (see: cool game) Cool Game(noodles) A free for all with tech-trading allowed where players use team speak or other 3rd party communication methods to coordinate teching and other aspects of the game in order to nuke the other players as shockingly early as possible. Fat CrossThe tiles in a city that can be worked by it's citizens. Culture BombUsing a Great Artist to expand a cities culture by creating a great work. OverpoweredMeans the opposite of the actual english use, ie: impis are overpowered = impis are too powerful. Rank sleeper(whoor) A player who won't let you into his teamers because he doesn't want you to get ranked since he knows in his heart of hearts you are much better than him. (see: Corve - rofl, jokes!) Team Stacker(stacker) A player who tries to create imbalanced situtations so his team will have the advantage prior to launch. PseudoA player who's changed his name to conceal his identity. laggerA player with a weak connection or POS comp causing game to go slow. DropTerm used when a player is disconnected from the game due to connection issue. Common Abbreviations:Cat, cata = Catapult HB = Horseback Riding HG = Hanging Gardens GA = Great Artist or Golden Age GS = Great Scientist Eng = Great Engineer LB = Longbow HA = Horse Archer ya ok I know if you can't figure out these abbreviations for youself you prolly shouldn't be playing ladder but like I said I was bored...
