You more than likely have a fairly high latency which is common to consumer satellite based broadband connections. I am willing to bet that you live in a rural area and while you may get some decent down link speeds, your up link is what is holding you back. Does your modem connect to a phone line? If it does, there is your problem. If you happen to have a 2 way satellite connection, unless you're paying several hundred dollars a month, your up link is still going to be terrible. It costs the government thousands of dollars a month for a T1 connection for its communication packages used by the military. Unless you're fairly wealthy, I doubt you are receiving that kind of service. All I can say is, I hope you don't have any storms. Until school is back in session, you're stuck with what you have.

I've afraid that Dey is completely accurate, while satellite is a better alternate than dial-up for general internet use, it is still a high latency connection(it just takes time to send data up to a orbiting a satellite and back) so unless you can afford to pay for a government grade satellite communication package your going to have difficulties civing over satellite.

umm...correct but there probably is a few minor things you could do to help. turn off everything that could possibly want to send packets to another computer. cntrl-alt-del and google the proccess that are running and find a few to turn off if u can. Or if you could find a way around the protocol like with a vpn, (would hamachi help?? i never used it so not sure) that could help. Many communication protocols, especially those involved in on-line real-time gaming, require packets to be reassembled in order. if your network reorders the packets (which it is allowed to do), some protocol implementations drop the out-of-order packets and rely on packet retries. This causes delays in communications that are much greater than your modem latency. maybe call a wireless provider and sing them a sad christmas withdraw tune and beg them to hook u up for 1 month service. otherwise just change the map scripts so you get all the resources and play noobs for fun..they won't notice the lag anyway. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_Internet_access"Often, non-standard IP stacks are used to address the latency and asymmetry problems of the satellite connection. Data sent over the satellite link is generally also encrypted, as otherwise it would be accessible to anyone with a satellite receiver. Many IP-over-satellite implementations use paired proxy servers at both endpoints so that certain communications between clients and servers [[1]] do not need to accept the latency inherent in a satellite connection. For similar reasons, there exist special Virtual private network (VPN) implementations designed for use over satellite links because standard VPN software cannot handle the long packet travel times. Upload speeds are limited by the user's dial-up modem, and latency is high, as it is for any satellite based Internet."
