A quite surprising and annoying fact I see these days is that the first 8 ranks of the ladder seem to play once every 3 days and then only limited 1v1's. Fried himself has 0.9 days idle after a 3.2 days idle - and then two reports from the same person - DTA, in between...
Don't get me wrong - it is not my business what your schedule is, or how often you play civ4. Real life IS more important. But the first 8 ranks to have idles of 3+ days is kinda slow, don't you think? No one advances? Hello?
If you think Real Life (TM) doesn't allow you to play often, why don't you ask to be removed 10 ranks, as the rules (at least in c3c ladder) are stating?

Actually I haven't played many 1v1's at all. I much more enjoy teamers or cton/ffa's. And the rules do state that the top 10 players need to play atleast once every 7 days, it don't think that rule has been broken. Personaaly I play most of my games on weekends as being out west I'm not ready to play games in prime time est game times. You are free to challange people and have 5 days to arrange something as well.

I cannot challenge anyone if I am not in top25, right? How can I get there if ranks 1-10 aren't playing?
I didn't say a rule was broken. But... still... People were stripped off rank 1 with 4 days idle in c3c (rare but it happened).
Again, I think it's a question of sympathy for the others... activity on ladder is MUCH higher for most players except top10... Anyway, some of the people in top10 will hardly ever see it again when they lose it, hehe.

Sir: I have played at least one game every day save one day a week. DTA failed to report after our full-length game for an extra day. I played 5 games this weekend, and one Monday. Since I played last night, and right now, that's why it says .9. I am defending my title against #2, required by the rules, as I type this. I plan on playing one game against whoever happens to be in the lobby when I drop by tomorrow night. Recently, I have also played Yilar, the #1 rated player at the time. As a schoolteacher with a girlfriend, I cannot afford to play a teamer on turns (not timer) on a weeknight. I have tried to organize them on weekends, but have instead played 3 and 4 person FFAs. I would very much like to play a teamer - I prefer them as many know - but I haven't had the chance. In short, I am fulfilling every play requirement. I'm sorry I don't play as fanatically as you do, but I have a life outside of this game, and I intend to continue it. I have no doubt I will probably plunge if I get out of the top 10, but to be honest, I don't much mind. I have nothing to prove. I'm here for the fun! If the player base feels my position is unfair, I will be happy to reset my position, but I'm sure comments would follow that action as well. Frankly, I don't particularly want the #1 position, since this type of critical commentary tends to follow it. I look forward to your formal challenge and the opportunity to shed this limelight once more.

Fried,
I am not saying you don't deserve #1, or that you should have no life besides civ. As you could see, I have as many reports (32-11) as you do, so I don't play a lot either. And I wouldn't have brought this up unless really, the whole top 10 was on a 3+ idle.
I know what #1 means in terms of criticism. I was there too. But just reminding people that, if they can't play consistently (this particular instance might be a happenstance) they should ask out. And again, this comment is NOT directed at you in particular or whether you should or should not be #1. I am sure you'd blast me in a 1v1 yet.

Ah. I haven't really been watching the ranks of the other top 10, except to check for who's #2 once a week. If they've been exceedingly idle, I wouldn't know about it.

Personally, I'm surprised by Fried's frank and open honesty as well as admitting that he does, in fact, date girls.

I do attempt to play on weeknights as well, but I also have an obigation to the ladder to continue testing the patches, so that we may get rid of the few bugs we have, I'm sure we all want the lobby to be useful So if anyone knows how I can do more than one thing at once please tell me....I could use that skill at work too CS

Well, I'm not watching the ranks at all, much less the top 10. I'm sure the higher ranks will be dominated by the play-testers for now. Nothing wrong with that. As to the future, the higher ranks will be dominated by those who play frequently. Unless you are #1 or #2 you will slide down the poll if you are idle.

Personally I really dont think its anyones buisness how often I play as long as its within the requirements of the ladder rules ( 7 days as stated above I believe). As Fried said, i also have a girlfriend, kid, job, and a working band that all take priority over CIV. I do however play as much as I can and whenever I can. For the record most of the idol days are also due to late reports. Thank you and good day sir.

I try to play at least every other day, sometimes on consecutive days, and always on weekends. I will admit the last few days I have spent most of my time playing the test patch.

Personally Lu i don't think you or anyone else should much worry about the "ranking" How often has it been determined that Rank don't mean chit? Also... how long can you sit in the lobby without crashing? Til the lobby is fixed don't complain about remedial things. If you want to play one of the top ten for a chance for some good rank there's a wonderful thing we invented called "EMAIL" send them a note and say hey think i can get a chance to play ya sometime? I would bet more times than not anyone up there would be glad to play oen. They play when they have a chance with whoever is around. I have been in top ten-13 almost since the release. You have played me 3 times... and you have lost 3 times. You had your chance to get the rank you just weren't good enough Everyoen knows I play alot and often. I don't desciminate who i play... I put up a game and launch when full.... I am not goin to sit in the lobby and say.. Hey we have to wait for Lu (who may not even be playing) TALLY HO!!!!

I do, but hardly for myself, as I said, I have fewer games than most of you anyway. I don't play enough to have a shot to high rank even if top 10 WOULD play more than twice a week. I'm just saying - it was an odd thing to see.
Vermillion it's not my business how much or how often you play. But for the health of the ladder, I do believe 1 week idle (as the rules say) is too long for top 10. Notice that I am NOT saying you in particular have 1 week idle. Here's the difference - if a person plays very often to get to top10, then plays once a week to preserve the rank, THAT's the ladder business. Fortunately, this didn't happen yet (I hope) since our ladder is very new, so whoever got the high ranks so far did so by virtue of being the first to play games at all, not by virtue of playing very often.
Cobra - while your points are reasonable, your attack on my skill is disgusting. I would HOPE you'd beat me after 2 years of beta testing, when I started playing 2 weeks ago. Have a good day.

LMAO 2 years of beta testing eh? Ask around before you you open your mouth Lu. I played maybe 10 games total in ALL OF THOSE 2 YEARS... Ya im a real veteran of CIV. Nice try try again. I am as new to this game as anyone else.
My point being- I am tired of someone ALWAYS trying to find something wrong. If i dont' chit for a day you goin to call the police on that too?

LMFAO! and Lu, I just take offense when im accused of something I havent even done, I know u say "not just me", but I am one of those "top 10 people", so yes...it does mean me. I dont think I could take a week off from this game unless I was forced

I've played exactly **one** regular 100-or-so turn Ladder game. I plan to play those probably once every week or two, as I really prefer the epic style game. The only reason I made it to the top 10 is because of some epic reports. I was as shocked as anyone when I saw my name there. I had my fill of #1 back with PTW and couldn't care less about it anymore. I just want fun games with good friends. If the admins want to lower my rank so that others can enjoy having high rank, I have no problem with that whatsoever. I will not, however, play 3 clickfest games every night so that Claudelu might have the chance to get some rank. If I have to have my rank lowered for that, please do it, Admins.
