No wonder GS cannot handle your speed...you are overspecked oops 8800 gtx then I think GS works pretty good for a free service. It has moments from time to time, but mainly the problems are one of the players ends. 1 bad apple can mess up a hole batch.

Yup, VERY occasisionally, not even once per week (and generally less) and when it DOES happen and you blame it on GS, it's more generally because of HIGH TRAFFIC times on the overall internet and not GS itself. Although you MAY be playing during the evening European times... you're trying to establish a network connection that is during PEAK BUSINESS/HIGH TRAFFIC hours where the server is based - the U.S. (and servers/gatways/hosts are given priorities) per Federal Communication Commission (FCC) guidelines - just like telephones. This has nothing to do with gameplay as previosly mentioned (although it DOES occasionally happen coinciding with the overall internet) it's more thank likely as I said, someone X'd out during launch or right at the beginning right after a "quick look" at his random civ/location/etc AND YOU WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO TELL THE DIFFERENCE between an "intentional" and a network issue!!!!! - as previously posted - this "game/launch/drop" tactic has been used all the way back to CivPTW. Once again, VERY infrequently, maybe like ONCE per month? ? Yes, a REBOOT to clear RAM and CACHE becaue someone has played 50 games in a row - once more... PLAYER related LOL! - you are ALWAYS the FIRST to brag on your system, your network, your router - etc - and you are also ALWAYS THE FIRST TO SCREAM PROBLEM (as you play with a SERIOUSLY FLAWED operating system - VISTA)!!! I play (and HAVE played) with a PentiumIIII 1.6gig processor (using XP) with 1gig of RAM; Radeon9550 and I play 100% PROBLEM FREE (a 100G broadband connection helps a lot) since day ONE of Civ4 (and beyond) and I connect and play PROBLEM FREE and those that connect to my game never have conflicts with my game. Unlike your rants and raves, most the problems people are discussing here happen in teamers vice non-teamers - where the problem is magnified by 100. You RARELY see a "I can't reconnect to the game" in a non-teamer (where players who aren't doing well tend to just quit instead of making "connection" excuses" Bantams, sometimes talking to you is like talking to some drunken fool who quits ladders and clans on a regular basis... (oh wait, my bad - my most sincere appologies)

but yes.......... as banty yacked above, there is an occasional problem with making a connection with GS - but not too often. (and 99% of the time, they last only minutes) but you NEVER KNOW if it's GS itself, or the 100's of Gateways, Hosts, Hubs, Relays, Switches, and Servers between the game computer and GS
eliminate the player issues that CAN be eliminated and it's the most stable system available to us.
use another system with the same player issues? As I posted, there will be the same problems.
ever notice that about 90% of these problems do NOT happen in NON-LADDER games? lol!

Regarding teamers reasons that wont work. 1. IF a top player takes 2 months off/2weeks off etc his rank will fall i assume. 2. some players are better at different eras. Yes we all know all that, but its still more fair and fun, due to the possibility to pick, and shuffle will most likely turn out Very unfair allmost 40% of the time, while the incorrect skill rating will maby turn out very unfair say 10% of the time. Regarding Alternative server solutions Im sure anything not included with the game, will make the ladder scrink fast. No matter how wonderful it may be. So many people out there that cant even manage their firewall correctly.
