I've now played six games which I guess according to Cobra's criteria gives me a right to express my opinion. I am finding that the comments I have read don't actually tally with the games I am playing.
1 the games is slow and boring?
3 of my games have involved constant battles with opposing players. 1 was indeed boring but that's because the timer was too slow, rather than the game.
It's too hard to get kills and too easy to defend.
The number of kills in games I have played are at the same level as c3c, it's just that because of the different strategy most kills are more likely at the beginning or end.
As to defending yes it is easier, and yes this is realistic believe it or not, odds of at least five to one are expected to take any city depending on fortification level. Does it make it too hard to kill. I'm seeing the same number of kills per game in 2 city elims as in 1 city elims in c3c. Builders beware, I've done this a few times, only to find my less scoring compadres pillaging the hell out of cities I cant adaquately defend.
It's too complicated. Totally disagree if you want to ignore the micromanagement aspects, you can. If you want to go into depth you can also. One of the games charms is you can play reasonably succesfully without knowing too much about the ins and outs. The ins and outs are slowly learnt, so there's a steeper learning curve, but IMO this is exactly what I want.
If you don't like it fine, but it does seem to me, that people have derided it unfairly in many areas, this is a strategy game now, if you want a mindless unrealistic build stack and expand fest then stick with C3c, yah that's fun, but I happen to think CIv is fun too.
