I played a 1vs 1 on a duel mirror map the other day....I settled in place and researched AH first.... found out a few turns later when i reached my opponen't capital that he settled on the horses!
The horses showed up 5 squares away from starting spot so my opponent moved the settler three times before settling!!! Also the position of the horses was not ideal anyway, no other resources around!!
My opponent claimed that he moved the settler towards me in order to warrior rush, which he did, but still settling on the horses?!?!
So unless that was pure luck the only other explanation is a world builder map hack.
Are you guys aware of such a cheat?

Its not a hack, experienced players can tell roughly where resources may fall, however in this case it was just luck. The fact you normally build on plains hills normally avoids this kind of luck but dont worry you were just unlucky.

I have played more than 30 games on this map and horses have not been on the same square twice. There is no way you will know where exactly they will pop up no matter how experienced. There can be in the center, north, south and sometimes do not pop up at all..... Anyway I accept that it was pure luck, hopefully people will not get that lucky against me too often.....

There is no map hack, I've played enough civ to at least know where the resources are located and what tiles will be eligible for what. For example, if you see some of those great desert rivers you know there will be a resource of either Iron,Oil, or Incense.

You will roughly know where something may pop, but is it enugh to actualt settle there, think most would still go for the plain hill (or other bonus starts like marble hill ect), as long as the horse/metal is not visible

I agre that you know which tiles are eligible for horse to pop up, you know it ain't going to be flood plais, forests or hills......but that still leaves a heck of a lot squares, on an unexplored map.
So to take your settler at the beggining and move him forward for 3 turns until you find a square that looks like horses might pop up.....it seems a little over the top to me....

hm, I have heard so much accusations (also on myself) that some1 can see all map - I aint sure anymore if it s really impossible or not - civ4 is so full of bugs ...
I somehow think that for example mettalian is one who knows lil tricks of civ4 (dont get that wrong - thats no flame or so). Maybe once some1 of these guys stop playing and tell then others that cheating is really possible.
As long as there are no proofs for cheats - for example some1 showing a admin how some kind of cheat works - I think u should not accuse some1 of cheating.
some1 mentioned that experienced players know where res are - thats not true for mirror map for sure - I played this map really often and at least for me it s totally imposible to tell where res are. Sometimes I somehow know that at some spots there wont be a res - but to tell the tile where res is - impossible for me

I played Gibliss three times in 1vs1 yesterday. His map settings have the land so evil that often you've no food in capital. It is actually better to go travelling to the center! I didn't bother, but I'm not surprised someone went wandering in a game with him 1vs1. Now, finding horse, that I don't believe. 3 games of 1vs1 with Gibliss and there wasn't horse on the map once

Hi IMO i believe THAT was just luck. But for you guys wanting to know whether a "map hack" IS POISSIBLE.......well, the asnwer is: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The worst thing about the map hack is that no1 will be able to really tell if some1 cheated or not. But atleast, it is ONLY possible for the HOST of a game to cheat, or to dictate who cheats. I am not sure if i should post this here, but atleast it will open players eyes (and make some ppl go crazy with paranoia.....eh scorp ), but here goes: The map generater files can be modified to give (or remove) resources from players. For example, the code for the "HB_Equal_Inland_Sea" would loop through each and every player and give them the same resources. By simply adding a little bit of extra code, it is possible to make the map generator generate any resource to any player. The thing is that these maps generators arnt considered as "MODS" by the game, that is why u can change the code according to ur wishes without any1 knowing. Cheating in a hb_equal map would be a dead give away, but cheating in normal games would be considered "major luck" by most players. Because the host chooses the map generator (the map) HE is the only person able to exploit this. Even if he doesnt give himself the lands of paradise itself, he could take away ur resources. Now if u create such a hack map, u can rename it to "tbg" or "pangea" or whatever, and no one in the game would know its a diffrent map. If you guys want, i can make a Proof Of Concept for this just to show you that it is possible? The best advice is to play with a trusted host. ...oh, and just to set the record straight to every1: there is NO WAY TO CHEAT THE COMBAT ODDS!!!!! (atleast not imo) so stop whining when ppl try their luck cheers GreenBerret
