So I am in a Cton today and half way through the CTON I Self automate my entire Civ and leave to go have brunch. At the point of self automation I was ahead by around 150 Point. After 40-50 turns after I leave, some of the players are upset at the fact that I am not pressing enter and they come to the conclusion that I am gone. They attempt to kill me but because I have 3x the power of the second place at that point and I am the King of Automation while AFK, they cant kill me nor touch my first place victory. After awhile they decide the only way to get back there precious 0 - 20 seconds a turn with 22 turns left is to restart the game. Not only did they not wait 10 minutes for me when they did this, but there reasons for restarting is not justified. I was fully within the bounds of ladder rules to take the entire amount of time each turn. I was not lagging the game outside the normal full turn time and there would have been no difference between me doing that and actually being at the computer but not pressing enter.
Now I understand its a little messed up, don't get me wrong I fully understand that Its nice to be present when you are playing and it sucks to have a player in a game who doesn't press enter, even when the timer is on "Blazing." But what happened is not within the ladder rules and I play according to the ladder rules and I dont see any ex post facto law bullnuts in place so I deserve my reports. At the Time they restarted the game I was 200 points ahead of first place and I had 3x the power of the second place player and there were 22 turns left on the clock. It would be one thing if there was a rule saying I cant do this, but there isn't and I would appreciate it if a decision was made in regards to this matter which reflected the rules and not personal opinion.
gracias

Yes but you and I know that your automated civ will perform a lot better than when you were actually controlling it. So that is clearly unfair.

I always use 100% of the time on all my turns till the last 10 turns when im too far ahead to matter, so I'd have to say automating wouldn't slow down the game anymore from my experience. It's usually the person whose way ahead who actually needs the time....

Sounds to me that you took a risk leaving your civ automated and it turned out to bite you. No there's no rule saying you can't leave your civ automated but to take the chance there will be a reload you are not there for. And how do you know they did not wait 10min? You apparently were not there to know. CS

intentionally causing delays in game is unsportsman-like and against ladder rules
so.....................
Yes, what you titled this forum thread is clearly appropriate as you broke ladder rules
2. DON’T QUIT GAMES: Players must make every reasonable effort to complete a game once it is begun. It is not considered acceptable to leave a game because you don't like your start, your prospects of winning, or because a better game becomes available. This can spoil the game experience for the others remaining in the game. It is also not acceptable to leave a game for personal non-emergency reasons. Players entering games should know they are able to dedicate several hours of play time, or they shouldn't start the game. If you voluntarily quit a game, whatever the reason, you must report a loss to every remaining player in the match
15: GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP: The basic premise of the ladder is to facilitate players finding each other, who are devoted to Civilization IV, so they may compete in a sportsman-like manner. Our philosophy is play hard, but play fairly. It is NOT winning at any cost. Any player exploiting game deficiencies as determined by the Admin Team risk expulsion or severe penalties
Fill in the Blank We can't cover every aspect of gaming in our rules. We have tried to be as thorough as possible and cover all the basics. However, just because something is not listed doesn't meant that it is allowed. Use common sense. If it is something that will adversely effect other players and you might think twice about doing it's probably against the rules. Our staff have the final say in such matters. If you have a specific question please feel free to contact us via E-mail
Even though you didn't drop, you CLEARLY (and admittedly) "LEFT" the game.
You should be made to report to all because again, even though your comp was in the game, you LEFT
You should be penalized by admins for this.
GOOD THING I'M NOT THE KING AROUND HERE!

I spoke with a player on the last few turns of the game and I was notified that the reason for the reload was to get me out of the game and a player left for that reload.

IMO MGT was within his right to use all of the timer and automate his civ.
Isn't there an option to check that doesn't wait for you to end turns but automatically ends when all moves are complete? You could have checked that, if that didn't work by itself, also hold down buttons, with a small heavy object, to initiate auto moves. Would that have worked?

Eh, it sounds to me like MGT took a big gamble and it paid off and everyone who agreed to reload the game for the sake of reloading the game are little babies who violated ladder rules.
If he's obviously not there, there are a lot of things you can do inside the rules of a cton. Go pillage his land. Steal his workers. Block his tiles from being worked. If all his units are fortified in his cities this will be very easy. The AI isn't controlling his civ. If you can't do anything to hurt him when he's not even there, it's your fault, not his. Don't cry over it, and certainly don't try to manipulate the system to your advantage.
Finally, the last thing you can do if you're really pissed off the situation is to write down MGT's name and remember not to play with him again. He was well within his rights to do what he did, no matter how annoying it may have been to you.

There's a wait at end of turn option but unchecking it unfortunatly still causes the game to wait for you to press enter. I just tried a single player game where i put a weight on both the shift and enter keys (shift+enter ends turn even if you have stuff to do). That works fine, so if you go afk try putting something on those keys

In my opinion there is a big difference between take the full time to play, and wait full time without answer to others players.

Can we get the names of the people who couldn't beat an automated civ? I too, would be interested in knowing who these morons are that couldn't figure out that an automated civ next door would be the equivalent of a ripe juicy fruit ready for picking. I mean if someone is so stupid that they can't kill or at least maim an idle civ, they should be banned from the game, or at least ladder, for stupidity beyond reason. Mgt can really find some noobs to play with. Maybe you should challenge these buffoons to a 1v6 or something.
