It's a pity, but I am seeing more and more of this occurring. What is really a shame is it is coming from (what I thought) some of the better ladder players. Loose a big game and instead of reporting and then resetting stats they are resetting and then reporting. This basically makes the report useless to the person being reported to. Don't really understand this other than to get back at those that beat you and ensure they don't move up the ladder. Pretty sure this is also against ladder rules but what do I know.

Actually the three that have done it to me are or were in the top 20. However I am finding more and more that the "Elite" have special previledges over the lower players and are not susceptible to the same rules as the Lower Ranked (me being one of the lower ranked). Won't mention any names, but, the players I have seen do this were or once were some of the more respected players on the ladder. I know that admin are aware but yet nothing is done. Wonder why? The buddy system maybe. I myself don't care much about rank, and have given up filing non reports as they don't seem to matter much either. But a more regulated system does appear to be in order.

If anyone is resetting stats before reporting matches in order to denial people rank jumps please email me and there will be action taken and they won't like it at all. I think 30 days with no ladder games might make people think twice about doing this. Fair warning. And believe me no admin "knows and does nothng" we are not psychic, if you don't tell us, it's not like we can see that in the dailly reports.

Never seen anyone reset before reporting -- They may have come into the game unranked but they most likely didnt reset during the game.
Enough complaining. Play the game.

Personally, I am not a fan of the constant resetting that I see a few players do. However, this is a privilege granted to Gold Members for making a monetary contribution to Case's Ladder. As long as that is that is a benefit bestowed upon Gold Members, I don't think when or how often they reset should be regulated by the community. However, if an agreement can be made with Case's Ladder to allow 1 stat reset per week, how it is with name changes right now, I think this would be an ideal solution.

I've seen it done in the staging room, to avoid captaining. Lame.

Resetting before reporting is going to hurt a persons stats. I don't see why anyone would do that.
I reset after my first 100 games of so because I was still adjusting to the game but would never do it again cause I like to keep tabs on how many total games I have played but if someone feels there stats don't match there play and they have improved, why not reset them. Thats the perks of having a gold account, I guess.
The admins could always make a rule that a player can not reset more than 4 times in a 12 month period to stop abuse. I don't see why anyone would need to reset more often than that.

It gets more complicated when people stop caring that much whether they win or lose because they can just reset their stats after a loss. While I don't necessarily think that these players are deliberately losing, they still don't have the competitive drive of a player that keeps stats, and as such they WILL play at a lower level in at least a portion of their games. It makes it hard to pick players for teamers when you don't know which player will be showing up for the game. Even more frustrating when someone resets stats just so they don't have to be a captain.
In response to the idea of resetting to "more adequately show the level of skill", I am not seeing this one. When players become better, they generally just play better players in more competitive teamers, unless they are just wussbag newb bashers. With this in mind, I would think that your first games against other really bad players would give you a better record than you deserve, not a lesser record, but I suppose it would depend alot on luck of matches and how quickly the player improved vs how quickly they became recognized as a good player (too good a pick for a fatkid phenomina).

Ironclad also has well over a 50% rating, as reported in the same thread as Nero's rating, and he honorably reports all his games too. No reset, report, reset nonsense. He may reset more frequently, but it is his right from Case's Ladder as he did pay for it.

I really dont see the issue here, if people want to reset there stats whats the problem? It is the only benifit of going gold.
This topic comes up agian and agian and i can never work out why, i dont think any one resets there stats when the games outcome is important ie one player is rank 5 and the other is 3, or something like that. I dont think admin should try and enforce and rule banning people from resetting stats befpre reporting, it might be unsportsman like but hey you pay for the privallage so its up 2 you.
Its not a problem on the ladder, and i think this is making a mountin out of a mole hill IMO

I did read it all and responded accordingly. I never said the thread was about resetting in general.
But the piont i was making is lets say player 1 beats players 2. Player 1 is rank 100 and player 2 is rank 50. But before player 2 reports he resets his stats, denying player 2 a fairly pointless rank jump.
This reporting before retting is only important if both players are in the top 10 (well 5 IMO).
These fairly unsportsman acts are rare and even when they do happen they dont really have much of an effect on anything.
So as i said in my post this is not really a big deal/problem/issue and does not require a new thread every month, but thats just my opinion. Being able to do such a thing is a perk of going gold, well if you want to call it a perk. If someone is being a ass in a game and he happens to beat you, i guess it would be funny to reset and report. ;D

Just to add my 2 bits... I think that most of the folks that reset stats from time to time play the game frequently enough that the stats tend to average out anyway. If a reset is used to clean house once in a while - big deal, that's their perogative. My personal goal was to make it into the top 20/top 10 with a very crappy win/loss ratio because I enjoy playing top players and absorbing their wisdom... I do believe that it is worthwhile to file non-reports though, it helps to enforce the credibility of the ranking system. I have found the admins to be quite vigilant in enforcing non-reports even though it is a rather thankless job. So.. thanks admin dudes!

Let's say Rank 5 beats Rank 3. Rank 5 will become Rank 4 whether Rank 3 resets or reports first ... no difference as far as rank is concerned.

For some people that is important, if you reset first #5 stays at #5 because he simply gets a win from an unranked player. It may be a moot point for most people but it's unsportmenlike none the less and it won't be tolerated. As to the reset stat issue in general, it is a right granted to gold members and arguing about that is pointless, it's a Cases policy that we have no control over. CS
