I don't know what the problem is with people changing their names. The ladder allows each player to change their name a maximum of one time per week. Each time a player changes his or her name it is listed in the Daily News, so it's not exactly a secret. If a player withdraws from the ladder, they must wait 15 days before registering, and are then allowed to do so using any name they like. As long as players like DaggerJones and Zvon follow these rules, who cares what they want to call themselves? They certainly aren't the first players to do this ... and if you're going to call out RaY for having Metallian and TheWiz as members, certainly it's ok if I call out Illuminati, right? How many times has Lazysmurf / Lanceuppercut / Machinist changed his name? How about the Longhorn / Pestilence / Longhorn switcheroo? ********************* Not that you care, but I take offense to your 'calling me out' or lumping my name change in the same category. I changed my name when I left the [TX] clan to stop confusion-- not to mention [TX]longhorn would be misleading people to think I was still in [TX], and changed it back only at the suggestion of others- who said I would always be longhorn to them. The change was published in daily news and I never changed my ladder email address to attempt any sort of cover-up. I am to call you out for going from MookieNJ to [Ray]Mookie? BUT when a player withdraws from the ladder and waits his appropriate 15 days to rejoin, changes his email address, and reappears after that time as another player AND worse then that- plays in a teamer with other people where some know his previous identity and some don't HENCE you benefit off of INSIDE INFORMATION to stack teams and gain advantage is ABSOLUTE TOTAL UNETHICAL behavior. Shame on you! No this wasn't my issue, but you dragged me into it. And if you believe that the two types of name changes are the same thing-- or that this is not a serious reprehensible way to operate in the ladder community, then there is nothing more I can say. Do you freely trade stock on inside information too? -longhorn PS- I sincerely hope the ADMINISTRATORS would suspend or permanently remove any player who's sole purpose in choosing a clan tag (ie KINGS) is for the sole purpose to make fun of or discredit other ladder players or clans. There is no place in our community for such mean spirited, vicious, people.

Well this certainly is a "interesting" thread, I caution people to stay far away from personal attacks however, we are drifting towards that now.
As to the issues:
1. Changing names is legal.
2. Re entering the ladder after 15 days with a new name is legal.
3. As to the ethics of changing your name to possibly deceive people, well I've never changed my name or reset my stats, and I'm a big believer in honesty and loyalty, but even if we decided to make rules against this trend, it would be nearly impossible to enforce. I will however investigate allegations of using hidden idenities to harass other ladder players, so if you believe this is happening feel free to send me a private email. I'm very good at finding out who a person is and I haven't failed to find out a true identity yet, and I will take action if I feel that our liberal policies are being abused.
4. Don't bother asking me to tell you who some new player might be, if they are not breaking any ladder rules I will respect there privacy. I believe that most people just do this after they are done with there "n00b" period and feel they want to start again at there current skill level, and I see no harm in that.

And MissLadyLuck. She is definitely Fried's second account. From my experience, she plays nothing like Fried .

Just a few clarifications:
1) I don't find the act of changing your name or resetting your stats unethical. The unethical part is whn you know the 'true' identity of another player and others do not, and you use that information to pick a superior team in what is supposed to be a fair teamer. It can be inferred that since I was replying to a posting of Mookie I was accusing him of doing this. The only thing I was directly 'calling him out' for was equating my name change to this and brining me into this thread in the first place. I am 'calling out' anyone and everyone who picks unfair teams based on inside information.
2) I reset stats all the time. I did it yesterday. It doesn't change the fact i am n00bhorn and will always be n00bhorn. It will change the consequence that I must captain a teamer against Mookie where I clearly do not belong at such a high rank. When you gain too much rank, you don't lose it unless you stop playing civ- or you reset. You can lose the next 100 games you play, and still remain at that high rank.
Thanks

That game with Speaker + Knupp + [KINGS] vs MLL + LP + DaggerJones + Bonsai + me was suprisingly fun and very competitive despite the probability of "stacked" teams. I have to admit that was one of the best ren teamers I've ever played. The game lasted 80+ turns and we had one of the most unique Inland Sea maps I've ever seen. Great game

Speaker - You attitude in all this really suprises me. You know i'm always down for a good laugh, but when someone decides it's funny to 'act stupid' and then gets a bunch of other people in on the gag and then takes it way too far, it isn't funny. I get the impression that your alot more privy to what's really going here than I am and as my clanmate it makes me pretty sad that you would make me the butt end of this joke.
Mookie - Just like churchill points out the difference is that you guys staged a bunch of teamers without flat out telling us who was who. It wasn't until halfway through my second teamer against Daggerjones that somone on MY TEAM finaly told me he's metallian and when I asked zvon who he was he flat out lied to me 'NO THIS IS ME FIRST LADDER ACCOUTN KINGZ IZ BEST!!!'
The first time heretec1978 tried to join a game I staged, probably one of the very first games that he played after changing his name, he pm'd me 'Hey this is Nero, can I play?' DO YOU SEE THE DIFFERENCE HERE? Same thing goes for Chris, when I first posted this thread I considered listing him as a pseudo but it's such old news that anybody who isn't already aware probably wouldn't remember =playaz= anyway. And as I recall I knew who he was before playing a new game with him so I don't think he did it to hide his identity but more like longhorn because he left his clan and wanted a fresh start.
So sorry mook but the only people I see her hiding their identities are all ray members. I don't know if lazysmurf every tried to stack teams by changing his name or whatever but he's been gone for months and if he did do that he certainly never told me about it, hence it was a personal thing and not a clan tactic.

I think you've got to the crux of the matter here lp.
How much of it is about stacking teams, I'm really not sure. But when this goes on it will happen by accident or design.

This seems kinda ridiculous and pretty uncharacteristic of LP I think. What's it matter if these guys change their names? After one or two games you know how good they are anyway, so it isn't going to screw teams.
And I fully support making fun of KINGS.

Well sorry Elledge but I don't like people lying to my face, or over the internet. On a visceral level honestly I don't like it either and I'd rather people just stick with their first name. I don't understand the appeal or the use of changing names. But I'd rather tolerate people swapping names and deal with it rather than making a big deal out of it. It's impossible to avoid, impossible to police, and it's not really doing any serious harm to anyone, as far as I can see.

Id pay $5 for 100% proof that MLL was Fried for the simple reason that I have beaten MLL 3 times in a row, of the games, 1 was 1v1 which I killed her in like 15 moves and the other was a CTON which I killed her in 40 moves and made her so upset that she said that she would never play another CTON again nor would she play me in general again and she said that I am an arrogant egomaniacle not a very nice person prick dipnuts evil mortal enemy suiciding bastard son of a motherless goat X 370928238920392 ^ to the 9999th power. It was deffinitly the most amazing display of emotions I have ever seen and it deffinitly should constitute some kind of academy award or medal of somekind. There were like 6 other people in the game that could attest to this

Longhorn -- I didn't mean to drag you into this, nor I am referring to you simply dropping the [TX] from your name. You did spend some time using a pseudonym, and for the first few teamers I played with you I had no idea who you were. Unfortunately I got dragged into this first when lp calls out the entire RaY clan because two people withdrew from ladder, didn't play for weeks, and when they finally decided to come back to Civ did so with new names. When I can find two examples of players changing their identy in lp's own clan, I find this to be insulting to me and everyone in my clan, and I am not going to stand for that.

You may be my clanmate, but I am also close friends with many members of RaY. And you are making too big a deal of nothing. "Stacked" teams are never so. It was a great game and you didn't need to call out RaY in the forums.
