- pointing out that we dont leave games and usually have less connection problems This is the big thing that originally drew me to the ladder. If we think we have it bad with the connection problems, imagine how the open game players must feel? I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of non-ladder players with the routers and/or firewalls misconfigured. And that's before you start to mention the players who quit because they lost a worker, lost a city, or just didn't like their land. I think both of these are huge drawing points for the ladder.

Yes the pro's of the ladder is that we make rules to keep people from quiting games and therefore games are generally fun because everyone tries there best to finish the game. Not to mention that we have a collective knowledge of technical issues that mean we have less problems with connection issues.
The con's of the ladder is that while we use human nature to keep people from quiting by ranking people, some players that are very competitive by nature will go to extremes to win games, ergo we may have a perception of elitism, our "problems" with teamers etc. To me the Cons are managable, but we all have to ensure that while being competitive is ok that it doesn't over ride the fact that we are only here to have a fun game. If we scare away new players because they aren't good enough for "our game" the ladder will eventually die, and that is bad for us all.

2) The game-play this is the real issue IMO, why have no many C3C players bought the game and basicly gone back to C3C? It just doesnt have that addictivness element prior versions in the series did. It seems even sirpartyman prefers C3C, although im sure he wount admit it, but you only have to see his reports on both ladders. Maybe i dont know what im doing but i find all too often i am doing the same thing game in game out, and the element of supirse is totally gone. Ship attack? quick moving horses? foget it!! It seems the only way to kill someone is with choking, or out produce/tech them, which can get awfully boring. Well, if you can get that cloaking generator from the first Command and Conquer game, you could totally surprise people. That was a sweet, sweet unit in mp games.
