People that play ctons and have big win percentages is not even near impressive.
Dont get me wrong alot of them are good players, but generally speaking newer players tend to play them. IMO those that play only ctons should have a 70% win, if they are marely above average.
Back on the topic of this teamer, elledge this guy was not using a gold mine, his 1 city was size 5 but because he wanted a great science leader he made 2-3 scientist with no worked tiles so it starved back to size 1 :/

i think elledge was joking (?)
and ur point about ctons and 70% is absolutely right. i wouldnt dispute it my stats have really suffered now i've started playing more and more teamers.
look at avrieeee's stats. he plays nothing (and i mean nothing) but inland sea ancient ctons.
it has been mentioned several times that ctons are dead easy often, we all know this. i think u miss the point i am trying to make. it doesn have to be this way. if u r not playing cton because u want more of a cahllenge that is no excuse, cos if peeps like yourself start playing cton then there is a challenge. however if u simply dont enjoy the cton format then fair play to you, this i can understand.
when i play with a lot of players i know and good players, they are really a lot of fun.

You lost 3. You didn't win them all. Correction: i was 4th in one of six or so ctons. Lakes map, i was in a desert. Kinda hard to get a good score You guys are not even reading what i say. We just don't agree the only challenge in a cton is too kill enough people and lead score far enough to get others to call game instead waiting out these anyoing last 50 turns after catas No, it's even better to kill everyone before time will be up I killed all five in one of the later ctons.

We just don't agree No i actually don't disagree with anything u have said. You just don't acknowledge the point that ctons would be more competitive and fun if good players (who play only teamers) played them. But this can stop now because it is going nowhere.

lol i would love to know the names of these peeps who screw up every game. hm, i may be somewhere on there. . well on a totally unrelated topic: some peeps complained in this thread that anc cton is silly cos it depends on the res. well i would say that this is not always the case but for sure sometimes. but i just had an extreme example. i played some lucky b***** today. he had persia and it turns out he had horse on the very tile he had settled his cap. i couldnt even see any bronze and iron working was many turns away. heh. any ingenious ideas of how to deal with this? i think even the very best player would be crippled if not killed in this situation. The best way to deal with this situation is to not build a worker, but a settler, and build a second city directly on any resource (horse, copper, iron, elephants, whatever), and make sure you b-line the tech for that unit if you don't already have it by default. Make millions of warriors to defend these cities . Capital should be easy to defend, since it will have 40% bonus fairly early, so you will probably want to focus your defense on the place where you are building on a resource. Preferrably you'd want to build on a resource that isn't towards the enemy, but take what you can get. Walls can help, too. If you have literally no resources whatsoever, then go for a catapult b-line and mass some warriors until then. BTW what nation were you? The off chance that you are aztec, you have an easy way out .

I agree with swissy. I also think playing teamers over and over with the same people really proves nothing but that a small clique hoards the rank. Noobs who don't listen suck sure. Stop playing teamers then, and whining about how teams aren't fair, and about how you don't want to captain, and blah, blah, blah, blah. Just play civ and quit cryin when you lose...it happens to everyone. And if you don't like what I said bring what you got to the Civ table and get your dinner.

I don't see what you're complaining about. Is there something immoral about playing with friends instead of playing with you?

Its immoral to rank hoard. end of story. Saying, "oh there is so and so, we play with him alot. Lets kick this other guy out so we can play with each other and then no one can get in our rank clique." thats whats dumb stuff i have a problem with. that ive seen many good players shut out of games. so i just think people should be a little less snobish. and i don't care if these guys block me from every teamer they ever play, cause im climbing the ladder and no one is gonna stop me.

You're conflating two possible consequences with one motivation. None of the people you're talking about (maybe one or two, I don't know, but not the majority) give a nuts about their rank, or rank hoarding. They sure don't ever say "Lets kick this other guy out so we can play with each other and then no one can get in our rank clique," nor would it make any sense. People play with the same groups over and over because everyone is friends, everyone is on Teamspeak chatting, everyone is on at the same time, and everyone is of similar ability. That makes for fun games.

Just play civ and quit cryin when you lose...it happens to everyone. And if you don't like what I said bring what you got to the Civ table and get your dinner. Ugh. Last time i played with not "the same people"(c) (well, they're not exactly the same but a known good players with maybe 2 other players maximum in a teamer) here is what happens: Are is on front. Somehow (no idea why he did it) he moves his worker in front of enemy warrior. And he doesn't defend it, he doesn't try to fast move, he doesn't try to kill enemy warrior just after it captured his worker (he has 2 warriors in a nearby squares). Oh well, it's his 2nd worker anyway... What he does next? He makes another worker while on front and he has no metal/horse, and that's when he has Chariots on his land. As an act of suicide, he moves his only warrior defending his capital on a hill so to "protect" worker from 2 Chariots. These 2 Chariots are in 2 square range of his now EMPTY capital and they still have moves... Well, of course he should have been dead anyway but how stupid someone should be so to try to defend a worker instead of a capital? Besides, Chariots were 2 squares behind his capital so he has at least 3 turns to make or slave Archers, chop a forest etc. Intead, he made another worker.... But ok, he's new. Several turns after glorious sacrifice of Are, one Chariot reachs a player who was behind Are. It's Bonsai. 458 wins, 310 losses. That's almost exactly the same number of reports as i have. Bonsai has bronze in capital from the very start. One player was killed near him with the same Chariot. What he does? He dies to that Chariot!!! I didn't even saw what he did so to die because i was 100% sure that other 2 players are safe against chariots because they have bronze in capital and only one city. Well, after that game i don't want to play Civ 4 with not "the same people" (c). It's just not fun. And i'll play with other players again only when i'll forget about that game. It will take some time and at least several good games with "the same people" (c). I'm playing Civ 4 so to have fun. And if i don't find some game fun, i'll better play some other game or watch DvD or read a book or do something else... What's the point to play a game if it will not be fun?

I once saw a single chariot take out 3 cities from the 3 different civs and 2 workers. I think cruz_inc was controling that chariot. I dubbed it the chariot from hell.
