One unfortunate consequence of the reworked ren tech tree is that cuirassiers, and therefore conquistadors, never EVER get built. I have yet to see one in any BTS MP game. In Ren games you cannot reach the tech before the end of the game. In epic games, Everyone will go straight to rifles anyway. Even cav are mostly useless to build except in Industrial starts.

I've seen them built. If they'd put 1 tech still before you reach rifles, I think cuirassiers would get more usability also. Much depends on the game you play too.

I've built them twice now, once in my first renaissance cton game, where I used them 2vs1 on cavalry to good success on my way to victory and then yesterday on an earth map (non-ladder) which I dominated The nice thing is it is very cheap to upgrade knights to cuirassiers.

Cuirs are becoming pretty popular in ren games as people have largely reverted back to the old tech path of GP, Nat, Militrad, although astro is still a popular choice, but I have yet to see a conquistador in BTS and doubt that I ever will.

yeah nat/milt is almost always the tech path for the rens now adays. the conqs are real nice, i played an earthmap and was spain and enjoyed them, have yet to try them in ladder. i think they only way we'll see them is in an unrestricted leaders game
