Couple of things I would like to ask. I dont like the spy thing. What chance of a box in options giving you the option to play with or without spies? Second - Ive played a few teamers and the ping is silent. Its completely useless. Pinging can be annoying but it is vital to be able to get your teammates attention quickly without having to write it all out. What is the reasoning behind silent pings? I've brought both these issues to the attention of the dev's, and I hope they can program in options at least. CS

Havent made the spy-catcher unit, that is strange, would make sence both to the game, and related to real life.
An 1 tile sight antispy, invisible to spy only, and able to kill spy. Would make the hole spy thing a lot more fun.

Yes but they have to remain stationary in a city for atleast one turn to perform a mission, which also increases the chance of them getting caught...but yes it would be nice to have a way of detecting spy's in the open. CS The city part and missions work fine. The game ruining part is they can remain outside cities without being able to be detected and killed. This way you can basically have a scout in any location you desire without it ever being killed or removed. This is what in some ways ruins the game. Rest about BTS is top quality, except for the PING change. But this issue is very serious and multiplayer game braking. You should not be able to have complete freedom of scouting enemy actions. Sure scouting ok, but there should be a way to detect and kill these scouts. Even if it was difficult. Make spys able to have a chance to detect enemy spies? Make anti spy unit? Some variable you can allocate gnp to have a chance to detect spies in your territory. Also it should be possible and very necessary to be able to track them in open territory outside your own borders. Permanent unremovable and complete scouting is really bad. I can see this being a reason(just by it self) why a lot of people won't play BTS. This is really sad, as a lot of the new things are really good.

Well according to the BTS manual, spy's can detect spy's in the open, although it is not clear if this is a %100 thing or a random chance based on how long your spy is stationary within your borders. Spy's also have a Kill Spy mission which is an option when you detect the enemy spy in your borders, and is effected by your passive espionage system like all other missions.
I've asked the dev's to confirm that the manual is right as the pedia has much less info on this part of spying.

Just purchased tonight (in canada at eb games - they received their shipment today). Initially wouldn't install from autorun ... did nothing. The install readme exit came up ... i hit install but nadah ... just sat there. I shutdown and rebooted and it took forever for windows xp to end. I ran the install from the setup.exe next and it was fine.
I played a few turns in SP mode and find the graphics a little cleaner ... easier to see text ... and the game seems to play a little swifter ... maybe just my mind. I had to set my screen resolution ... man I wish it prompted you to do this for the ini file and I had to put it in windows mode ... again the game should prompt you for this at install.
Initial impression ... I like it so far. Lots of exploring to do.
Surprised with this GameSpy Comrade ... its a chat without the lobby which I guess is handy. Who is online when I got there Nolan ... ah warms the thingyals of your heart.

It does run faster, at least in the beginning of a game.
I believe the map generation is totally different. I spent about 4 hours just launching a start and regenerating the map. In 95% of the map regens I got a ton of forests. Several had the city start location completely surrounded by trees. In about 50 tries I only saw a floodplain tile or a bald hill a couple of times. I started a few of these and invariably my first worker was on idle for several turns waiting for my discovery of the Wheel or Bronze for chopping.
I played two of these to the Middle Ages. The Random Events come very frequently. About 2 of 3 are bad with 1 of 3 beneficial. I had a mine disaster cost me a ton of gold to fix. Twice I encountered "Massive Barbarian Uprisings" that were totally devastating.
I think this has been changed to make the really "Sweet Start Location" very rare. I also think that fresh water is hard to come by and stone/marble/metal/horse is very rare.
There is also one thing that occurred that I hadn't read about. I did something that pissed off a neighbor. The report came back that my ambassador had committed a fau paux that irritated the Sumerians and my relations with them took a hit.
I also observed that the start location either has you crowded into a large bunch of other civ's or totally isolated:, no happy medium.
This is from one evening of testing.

I too can confirm XFire isn't useless. When doing the KAC tournies I use it to get in touch with Polish and East European players. It tells you if they're playing, when they played last and so you can more easily know if they're about and can get hold of them. It also isn't hard to use. What is their not to like? Pity more people don't use it.

The only reason I ever used xfire was because the Take2 QA had to use it as an IM. CS

You know that Civ4 has a build in timer and alarm? CS Timer??? I guess you don't understand... www.xfire.com/profile/ellestar/Civilization IV 1257 hours Civilization IV - Warlords 527 hours Counter-Strike: Source 477 hours etc. It counts all popular games that way. well my xFire doesn't tell me anything or list anyone, so I keep it turned off now.....guess I have to add friends like with YIM? Yes, of course. You can also see friends of your friends if that option is on.

I have to disable effects for my game to run smooth, I can't see pings at all. That is really gay I agree - it was a mistake to remove a good feature! I too do the same as you for playability reasons. Why they removed the floating location finder button is beyond me! Perhaps it is a question of dollars and cents and priorities that little attention was made towards MP play - but they spent the effort to remove it - yikes!!! It would be very interesting to know how this came about. The reasoning behind the scenes as it were. Alternatives are: Drawing on the map Labeling a tile Using voice even when combining these - you are still left with a less effective means to communicate a tile to your team. Voice allows you to be specific but takes lots of time. Perhaps the removal of the ping was deemed a balance towards increasing effectiveness of surprise attacks to counter the less effective siege units and the spies - I don't know? It is a well known fact that you cannot remove functionality simply because people don't like that.
