You can see 1 square from any territory you control (culturally) or unit wise. Hills will give you a 2 square radius of line of sight. This includes A) hills unit stands on and B) hills in your cultural border. Forest jungle and oasis all block 1 line of sight behind them. That means if a unit on a hill stands next to a forest it cant see behind it. Sentry used to mean that the game calculated you as having a unit on each square around the unit. That ment if there was a hill nearby it would even further project its line of sight. This is not the way it works in bts. Now its simply calcululated as a +1 bonus to the terrain tile the unit is on. Astronomy gives you +1 line of sight on water.
