well definitely switch ur pop ups off. as for unit cycling i have also had problems with this. the computer takes me to unimportant units. but course when u swictch it off u have to pick each one manually. may be it depends exactly how many units u have got. if most of ur units are at the batlle i guess there would be little need to switch unit cycling off.

You should check the pop-up button off in the options menu. At the end of your turn, click on the unit that you want to move at the start of next turn. When the turn rolls over, that unit should be available for you to move first. But before that....road your front.

Yes, i turn off unit cycling when nessesary. You still can cycle between units manually, i think with a W key.

Send troops down your roads to the front.

If you have the units....road to your enemy's front. Kill his city, then use the enemy's roads to finish him off.

On a side note, looking at the title of this post, I've often wondered why so many people on the internet don't know how to spell the word lose ...

What is the firstmover button? I always wondered how whenever an opponent and i are moving to the same tile at the same time, my opponent always gets there first....

When I need to move a certain unit first I do the following: 1.Make sure all cities have a second order for production,(no popups) 2.Make sure tech isnt finishing next turn, and if so pre order next tech,(no popup) 3. Make sure all units including workers have movement or work orders for the next turn. So absolutely no popups next turn......Go to unit you want to move. Then move just as turn ends. Sometimes you can get unit to move a split second after the turn starts. I have been pretty sucessfull doing this, but you cant always win every race... .
