Yeah I saw that too, i always thought to myself that we should get some extra points or something for doing that in C3C... and now it's a feature in civ4. way cool

Here's a question I haven't been able to figure out the answer to: When playing SP, I see the message come up that "So-and-so is the first to circumnavigate the globe". What does one get for this feat? I'm guessing maybe a Great Person but I'm not sure. Anyone know? It gives you the equivalent of Navagation 1, +1 movement on your ships. CS

That's a feature from Civ2 that's been resurrected, no?

First question: Does the Great Person have any affect if he is just present, maybe sleeping, in a city; or must he be "converted".
Second question: What is the benefit of changing religions? If you found one, and subsequently found another; what benefit is there in switching to the second one?

Answer Question 1: THe great person will have to be used in some way to get a benifet from them. If they are just sleeping in the city, you get nothing for them. On that point tho, it is sometimes good to do, if you are planning for a GA, since you will need more then 1 GP
Answer Question 2: There is no benefit for one religion over another, except if you found the holy city for one of those religions and have other players cities that are also that religion as this will give you LOS for those cities. A great way to spy on your enemy.

I don't understand your answer to question #2.
Your answer seems to imply that any one religion is just as good as another as long as you are the founder. But this seems counter-intuitive as some religions can be founded quickly with "low level" tech such as Hinduism, while others need more of a tech advance such as Islam.
Basically, my question is that if you discover the tech to establish more than one religion is there an advantage of adobting one over the other?

If I get a second religion along with a free priest or what ever I will send it to another city and then would convert if doing so would have more population in said religion.

There is another benifit to founding serveral religions, if you take that route, building multiple temples gets you the added science boost from each one of those temples, with the proper civics.

CS means monasteries--10% science boost each, 1 per religion.

Tommy I'll try my best but I'm noobish too ;D
1-spread you religion against ai you can A-war and march it in with a stack to the city and join B-have such strong culture that the neighboring civs take on your religious traits c-be generous to them(trades etc) and they will like you and want to be like you
2-Barracks Units made in barracks town get promotions earlier and more often. Promotions are key to successful armies in civ4
3-Leaders....you can A-make wonders B-join them as specialists in your towns to increase:science, happiness, economy, culture. They help with the culture boundaries(purple bar on left, once it fills your borders expand), they help with your future great leader production(yellow bar on right, once that bar fills another great leader appears). Tweak with the yellow bar using the specialist above the bar. You can turn citizens into engineers, priest, artist etc. You will notice when you change the + and - signs that the % of what type of great leader will appear next will change. You check by running mouse over yellow bar. Engineers help with wonder, my favorite though is great artists. Join a great artist into a border town and make a great work/Mona Lisa and watch you borders literally triple in size ;D
hope this helps, others feel free to better explain what I wrote as it is all still foggy to me too.

No, you can trade with the AI for "open borders". After that just walk in with the missionary and join the city.

The A.I. must really like me. I've played almost 3 games and they only declared war on me once and that's with aggressive A.I. option on. It sure is a friendly world of CIV compared to civ2 and civ3. I play noble difficulty level. I read that the A.I. play by the same rules as we do at that setting. It must be that they cant enter a rival civs territory without declaring war that changes there behavior. In the previous two games the A.I. would prance all over ur land. Any time u demanded they leave it was automatic war almost. After about 100 turns of those guys i wanted to blow the hell out of them all. There so nice in CIV, i feel guilty making war on them so i just pour on the culture. I usually make early war with my closest neighbor or 2 neighbors so they don't expand into me. Then after that its smooth sailing. Oh, my question. Is there anyway to disable the wonder videos?? If i build a wonder and discover a tech and get a rival civ contact my computer may ctd on me.

I'm not exactly sure on the wonder movies--check the options screen (ESC then menu or Ctrl-O), you should be able to turn them off. Probably under the graphics tab. Regarding friendly AIs: 1) Play at a higher level. 2) If you're pouring on the culture, this may make them less likely to attack you. 3) I'm not sure they'll attack you if you're just weaker than them, or if they have to have other justification (close borders, refused to help, trading with enemy, heathen religion, etc)--but if you're maintaining a good military it probably also works as a deterrent. Hope this helps. Now be a good glutton for punishment and ratchet up that difficulty level!

You can turn off all movies in the INI file, there is a shortcut to that file in the my games folder in your documents folder.

Real noob question, once you start building something, can you then change it without going into the city screen. I.e click on the city and use a hot key or click on screen somewhere.
Anyone know what the best resolution to play in is. 1900x1400 I think is the best res for my monitor.
And how long does it take to get out of the habbit of right clicking on something expecting the stats for the square to appear, my warriors love marching backwards and forwards it seems.
