If I remember well, timer is based on the person who has got the most cities. Maybe it's a bit more complicated, but I think it's the general idea.

I was in an advanced start game the other day (Marr's game) and I enjoyed it a lot.
Some observasions from that game.
The map was large with 8 players....too big in my opinion....Marr had 15 cities 70 turns into the game and room for another 15 ...ridiculus. It should be standard for 8 players large for 10.
Because of the advanced start, teching took off very quicly. We could have reached rifling from an ancient start in 110 turns the way we were teching.
Because of the nature of the map (wheel) and the fast teching, team play is much more important. It is not about individual early skirmishes here and there as TBG often is, but more about team members talking to each other, agreeing tech paths and planning defence and attack all together.......I like this a lot.
Turn timer was getting slower and slower.....annoying but the only thing that can be done is to play smaller maps.
Taking techs at the beginning instad of settlers & workers does not seem like a good option to me, unless you are close to your opponents. teching takes off so fast that it seems like a waste.
The only techs worth purchasing are Meditation & polytheism, so that you get a religion.
All in all I enjoyed this game and I hope that people start playing with advanced start.

Quote:I don't like 1:30 secs 70 turns into an Multi player game when most of my land is worked and I am just waiting for my cities to make units. This means I have to sit through 1:10 secs of down time each turn to wait to make more units.
Please, someone, somehow, adjust this and make a setting for it! |

Lol at some point you could go make a tea come back and have plenty of time to move still.

If you play regular games of Advanced Start of whatever settings with a core group of players, I am sure that you will hit the sweet spot of how much gold to start with the Advanced Start option.
I think that is the reason for the dislike of Advanced Start, there are a lot of permutations as to how to setup your civ before you hit the Begin button with that game type.
As someone said before, the sweet spot is where you can start with a few extras, but not be able to buy tech.

Well I'm sure that like any new concept that players will find the sweat spot that makes for a fun and competitive game, and if it becomes standard enough we would be glad to include it in the CCC.

1600 points is way too much. Anywhere between 300 - 500 is playable... above 500 is just too much.
