Does 'locking these forums' mean it'll be read-only, or just inaccessible?

I'm not sure there's anything vital that needs to be kept here; I would suggest someone start a thread at the new site for this game and that we all bookmark it, before the weekend arrives.

Just means that it will be read only, so nothing will be lost and it will all be here for historical retrieval.

I'm currently extricating myself from a bunch of civ games and in the process of quitting Civ entirely (except to host the current games I'm running to conclusion) so I won't be creating an account on the new forum this thread is moving to. If anyone has anything they need to bring to my attention (like the game or civstats uploader is down) then please email me at this screename @ my gmail account, and thank you in advance.

Thanks for working on it. I'd do it if I was going to sign up at the other site, but this may be my last game of MP civ for...well, maybe ever.

And ID, thanks for continuing to host. ;D I'm sure you know what a real bummer it would be to have to find a new host at this point in the game.

I've been enjoying the game, but mostly just from a planning perspective, in terms of developing my civ and getting ready to be assaulted, possibly from all sides.

But, over my 17 years of civ, I've come to realize that the game comes down to a management exercise--apart from the strategy and tactics of combat. And often, a management exercise can get pretty dull. And then, if you decide you're over the whole combat thing (as it invariably creates winners and losers, and in my experience it's a small percentage of either in MP civ that are gracious)...then there's not a whole lot left.

I'm not sure I'd be interested in a purely combat/tactics and strategy game, without the other levels of diplomacy and science and such that civ has. Maybe I just don't really have time for games anymore. Never say never.

/steps down off soapbox.

Enjoy.

edit: ??? wonders where Magzi's post went, which is what prompted this one.

Looks like there's a thread over on the new forums that we can use already, here:

http://league.civplayers.com/?section=forum

I suspect that won't take you right there, so it's here:

CIVPlayers-Civ4 Forums > Long Term Multiplay > Pitboss Games > The BTS ladder Pit

Started by Tamijo, might as well use it for any further discussion after this weekend.

Well, you could have chosen to aim towards some other victory condition :P. It might have made your game more interesting. Culture victory can easily be the most boring one.

If anyone here doesn't get there Civplayers Activation email within 30min, please email me at csoldier@telus.net and I'll email you your Activation key, for some reason some ISP's don't like our emails.

It's something I've wanted to achieve for a while. And 98% of my civ MP experience has been cutthroat ladder play, so it's a nice change. Not only that, but I've even tried to live up to self-imposed rules like no pre-emptive strikes. :P So far, anyway.... ;)

I have to say, though, that my land, position, and religious neighbors really made the shrine strategy pay off big time in this game. Well, the land helped overall, too.

Right. I was a bit surprised though that IanDC gave his full support to your culture victory :-/. Without that this game could have continued longer.

I admire someone who follows through on their agreements.

Anyway, as I said to MD, I was looking forward to being attacked from all sides, and was also surprised Ian sent me the support that he did (being the cynical, paranoid beast that I am). To be honest, I think I would've preferred taking on that challenge, and fighting off 4-5 of you, even if it meant losing several cities, and still coming up with the win. I think I had pretty good odds for that, with the infantry advantage, in spite of being heavily outnumbered. After all, I only needed to hold the three key cities, and they're all good production centers.

I wouldn't point the finger at Ian, though. You, MD, and ID could've given me a run for my money, if you'd managed to coordinate it right. Fortune favors the bold. ;)

edit: and don't forget, Ian's units didn't fire a shot (or, um, swing a sword), and I would've been very impressed if he burned them on MD's machine guns for my sake.
